Workspace Settings

This guide explains how to review and update your committee’s core information in Operative. The Workspace Settings page contains all of the official details about your committee—such as name, address, FEC ID, election cycle, and office sought.

Because much of this information flows directly into your FEC reports, you should always double-check that the settings on this page are accurate before filing. Be sure to update your Workspace Settings whenever your committee details change.

Before you begin, ensure you are logged into your account with the necessary permissions to edit Workspace Settings. If you need updated permissions, reach out to your workspace administrator.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to Workspace Settings

From the transactions page, select your workspace name in the top-left corner under the Operative logo.

  1. Review Committee Information

Confirm that the following fields are accurate and up to date:

Field Description
Name of Committee The official registered name of your committee
Committee Address Street address, city, state, zip code, and country
FEC ID Number Your assigned FEC identification number
Agency ID

Initially set to “VEND,” which means draft reports will not be submitted to the FEC e-file portal.

To enable submission, change to “FEC” (or “SENATE” for Senate campaign committees only).

Office Sought

The office your committee is registered for, if applicable (e.g., House, Senate).

If you are not a candidate committee, select N/A.

District Number Required for House candidates; all other committees should use 00
Election Type

Specifies whether the reporting cycle is tied to a regularly scheduled election year or not.

Choose Non-Election Year if filing reports for a Special Election or other off-cycle activity.

Election Period

Indicates the specific reporting context or election event associated with the filing.

For Special Elections, select Non-Election Year under Election Type and Special under Election Period.

Election State

Identifies the state in which the election is taking place.

Leave blank only when your reporting or activities are not tied to a single state-level election.

Election Cycle Start and end dates for the reporting period
Election Date

The date for the election period you are currently reporting on.

If the committee participates in multiple election phases (such as a Primary followed by a General), update this field after the Primary concludes to reflect the upcoming election date.

  1. Review Preparer Officer Information

Confirm that the following fields are accurate and up to date:

Field Description
First / Last Name The preparer’s name
Phone Direct phone number where the preparer can be reached
Email Email address for official correspondence related to reports
Expenditure Authorizer Name Name of the individual authorized to approve expenditures for the committee
  1. Make Updates as Needed

Click into any field to update it. Use dropdown menus where available (e.g., State, Election Type).

  1. Save Changes

Once you have entered your information or made any updates, click the blue Save changes button.

After saving your information, your workspace will be updated with the new committee details. These values will automatically flow into your FEC reports and other parts of the system, ensuring your filings reflect the correct information and that your workspace displays the appropriate forms and fields for your committee type.
