Add an Organization
Overview
This guide explains how to add a new contact record to the Operative system. In Operative, contacts are categorized as either Individuals or Organizations. This process allows you to create a record for an Organization, capturing its details and any relevant notes or tags.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- From the main dashboard, navigate to the Contacts section using the left-hand menu.
- Click Organization in the navigation panel under Contacts.
- In the top-right corner of the screen, hover your cursor over the New organization button.
- Click the New organization button.
- You will be directed to the Add new organization form. Fill in the necessary information for the contact.
- Required Fields: At a minimum, you must provide an Organization Name.
- Optional Fields: You can also enter the following information for more complete records and reporting:
- Organization address (Street Address, City, Zip Code, State, Country)
- Email address
- Phone number
- Website
- Account Number
- Default Payment Method
- FEC ID Number
- EIN
- Whether or not a 1099 is required
- External ID
- (Optional) Scroll down to the Add a note field to include any custom notes about the organization. These notes will not appear on an FEC report.
- (Optional) Use the Add tags field to create or assign relevant tags for filtering and categorization.
- Once you have entered all the desired information, click the Add organization button at the bottom of the page to save the record.
Expected Results
After successfully completing the steps, the new individual's record will be created and saved in your workspace. You will be redirected back to the Organization contacts list, where the newly added contact should now appear.
Troubleshooting
- If you are unable to save the contact, ensure that you have filled out the required Organization name field.
- If you do not complete information that is required for FEC reports, the contact record will be flagged as “Not Ready”. This will prevent the contact and associated transaction from being included in reports. See System Flags for more details.
Additional Notes
- While only an Organization name is required to create a contact, filling in additional fields is highly recommended for reporting and data management purposes.
